A Maldives overwater villa costs several hundred dollars a night before you have eaten anything, and the water it sits in is not unique. The same warm shallows, the same white sand and the same reef fish turn up across Southeast Asia, the Indian Ocean, the Caribbean and the Atlantic, on islands where a beachfront room costs less than a highway motel back home. We checked current listings and 2025 and 2026 travel reporting for 27 of them, then grouped the list by region so you can plan a route rather than a single trip. Each region opens with its cheapest island. The prices are ranges, not promises, because island rates swing hard between monsoon and high season, and several places have added fees since 2024 that nobody mentions in the brochure. Zanzibar now sells you insurance on arrival. Bali charges a levy. El Nido stamps a paper you need for ten days. Read the fees line as carefully as the room rate.
Ko Phayam, the Andaman Island Thailand Forgot to Develop

Thailand’s Andaman coast hides its cheapest bungalows two hours by boat from Ranong, and this is where the Southeast Asian half of the list starts. Simple rooms on Ao Yai list from around $18, and older beach huts drop closer to $12 outside the December to February peak. There are no cars, only motorbikes and sand tracks, and parts of the island still run on generator hours. Meals at the beach kitchens sit around $3 to $5. Mornings are the whole point here: coffee, a swim before the wind picks up, a hammock for the hot part of the day. Ferries thin out in the monsoon, roughly June through October, when many bungalows shut and the ones that stay open cut their rates hard.
